Carobit Cube Manual

You can operate the cube by simply clicking on it. The best thing is to go and give it a try. You'll soon get the hang of it.

To get you started, keep the following in mind:

·

The square you've clicked will always move away from you, taking the layer in which it is embedded with it.

·

To turn the whole cube, click on the centre squares on each face.

·

Corner stones are embedded in three layers, and each of their faces is embedded in two layers. When you click on a square in a corner stone, it can therefore move in two directions:

If you click within the area designated by the triangle, the right-most face of the cube will turn away from your click.

If you click within the area designated by the triangle, the top face of the cube will turn away from your click.

In a similar manner, clicking on different areas of the centre squares will make the whole cube move in different directions.

If you get tired of cubing, but you're not willing to give up, save the state of the cube for later. Hit Restore to get back to your latest saved Cube and continue.

Adjust the speed at which the layers turn to suit your PC's speed and your temperament.

You can scramble the cube and watch it solve itself. Or you can learn how to do it by watching carefully! To learn exactly how it is done, check the box beside "Stop after each step".

As the cube is solving itself, it will tell you exactly what it is doing.

If you've checked the single-step box, you can even move back and forth between all the steps required to solve the cube. You can even turn the cube between steps to see what it looks like on the other side and so on, or to make your own attempt at solving the step. If you do that, though, the cube will readjust itself back to the state it was in after the last step before continuing to solve itself.

Facts about Carobit Cube
·

Carobit Cube was designed and programmed by Pino Carafa of Carobit.

·

The Control was written using Visual Basic, version 6.0, with Service Pack 5

·

The solving method applied in this Control was devised by Pino Carafa in 1981, and although the author is aware that a similar technique was developed independently by other Rubik's Cube aficionados he wishes to assert that the method employed here is his, and his alone.
At the moment, the cube uses only a sub-set of the manoeuvres used in Pino Carafa's solving technique. If you re-visit the site in the future, you may expect improvements in:

1) Determining the starting position: At the moment the Cube always starts with the top-left hand corner at the front.
2) Last Top Corner manoeuvres: Using alternative moves to avoid complex sequences for fixing the bottom layer.
3) Edge Stone manoeuvres: Using alternative moves to avoid complex swapping manoeuvres in the middle layer.

All these manoeuvres are less straightforward than the standard manoeuvres that are already in place, and require a bit of extra programming effort. When the method is applied fully, it is capable of solving the cube in less than 50 moves.

·

Based on the Rubik's Cube game that was popular in the 80's.
