there's part of our application that is slow, and the managers sort of commissioned improvements to it.  The person responsible has kind of claimed to have created a solution to be included in out latest build (that I'm getting together).  When questioned the person has been evasive and it seems to suggest that the work was never done.  I believe that I could become the 'fall guy' here if it seems I simply didn't include the work in the build.

What best to do here?

sell out to Microsoft. Or try rebooting.

send the person an email documenting the manifest and ask for a confirmation.  doesn't matter that the person won't reply, because you'll have a SENT message documenting that you tried to get clarification.   when the shit hits the fan, you can show that you told the person what would be in the build, and the person's non-answer confirmed everything was correct.  maybe CC somebody.  this won't work if the person is your direct supervisor (or is sucking your direct supervisor off).  if that's the case, bend waaaay over and kiss your ass good bye.

Ignore it and it will go away.

No, really. Maintain the following attitudes:
   "It wasn't me."
   "RTFM"
"Bill Bloggs was looking into that"
"Do I look like I give a shit?"
   "Fuck you, I'm fully vested"

Both mac and baldy are right. Send an email CCed to someone higher up or HR if you have one of those and keep an attitude. Do not ever apologize for anything, that is a sure sign of weakness to those kind of backstabbing cocksuckers.

Mac is right. Send an email to the guy for clarification, and forward that same email with an explanation to one of the managers who "sort of commissioned improvements". If you'll become the fall guy, you'll have at least a parachute.

the Emails appear to have worked, the work seems to be getting done on the hoof now, but not by me.
