Any ideas what this could be?  I caught it on my security camera over the weekend.  The frame rate is close to what would be observed by the camera.

Shooting star maybe, or a firefly really close to the lens?

To be honest I don't even know what I'm looking at overall, so a little white moving thing could be literally anything. It's a reflection in a window, is it? Or is the camera pointing outward through a window?

Yes, the camera points out the back window.  Here's a morning shot to give you your bearings.

Shooting star: It's slower than every meteor I've ever seen, and much much brighter.  If that was a fireball over the city, I'd think it would be in the news.

Firefly: I've never seen a firefly in my life.  I don't even know if we have them up here.  The temp is around 4C at night.

I thought it might be a plane, but it's very bright.

It appears to be in the background, disappears behind something.

Could it simply be an aircraft?  Police helicopter?

Just how long do you spend viewing this sort of footage to have noticed this?  Have you got a good looking neighbour who's a naturist? ;->

>Police helicopter?

That's something that seems likely.  Flying low with the bright lights.

>Just how long do you spend viewing this sort of footage to have noticed this?  Have you got a good looking neighbour who's a naturist? ;->

What you see is what you get.  :)
It's a web cam with motion detection software.  So I spend maybe 30 seconds every couple of days scanning the images for suspicious nighttime activity in the back.  I have had one attempt in the past by someone trying to break into my shed.  Also there's the mystery of the Benson and Hedges butts that keep appearing in my back yard...

Oh. That one's easy. You have a split personality. The other guy smokes.

I am often of two minds, I have to admit.  grin  My current theory is that my neighbour on my left smokes on his deck and has a good flicking finger.
