Not having an X-factor no.1 at xmas would be great but Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah would be a really worthwhile Xmas No1.
Get downloading.

well not buying Burke is a start, but buying Buckley is better. Though I guess the Republic won't count anyway.

YouTube has made a few changes. The thing people are up in arms about is that they're planning to "algorithmically demote" videos containing "profanity".
Some people proposed a boycott of the site from 19 - 21 october to protest against this. Whilst I don't think such a boycott is going to work, I don't want to be seen as someone who actively participates in making such an action fail by ignoring it. So I've joined in. Sure, I can do with a wee break ;-)

what does it mean by 'demote' does that mean banned, or slipping down the ratings??
19-21st of October, is that next year? Nothing like swift action man.

Hey I've looked into this and I agree with the policy, it'll still be there if you want it.

so I guess you meant december and it was a slip, i never knew there was a boycott, so maybe you should have given notice!
No one cares about this policy though, or most people don't care. Loads of people swear, but they don't want to hear it everywhere. They're ok laughing at it in Tarantino movies and bawdy comics, but it's lost some of its novelty. People definitely don't want swearing to creep into normal areas of life, so news-readers won't be describing events with swear words thankyou very much.
You won't change regimes in third world countries by using the F word in a YouTube video. So the guy in a mask prattling on about needing to challenge Burma with vulgarity needs to get himself on to a writing course IMHO. He'd be better learning about the negative effects of swearing on listeners than trying to challenge youtube's policy. I think YouTube's policy is quite normal, reasonable, fair and relaxed to be honest.
