Hey, it's not completely unthinkable. When people proposed that gastric ulcers could be the result of an infection they got pooh-poohed too. They were right though.

I think it makes sense.
I bet there will be a lot of resistance in the US, weight loss is a multi billion dollar a year business here.

I went from skinny too overweight in a ridiculously short space of time, maybe I was infected during one of my trips to Pizza Hut or McDonalds, all those fat people hanging out there, they passed their germs on and now I'm one of them.

in reality this theory was around a few years back, there was a documentary I saw and although the proponents of the theory had made some nice computer models with graphics, the doubters were also fairly convincing. I've not heard much of the theory since to be honest.

I was fairly skinny until about 10 years ago, then I got fat pretty quickly after I moved to the mid-western US. Odd that the fattest people live on or near farms.

i have always been 185, but working 6 days/week in CO, i went from 185 to 195, then when i moved back to PA. i got really sick and went on prednisone for 4 months, pickling up another 20, so that makes 30, leaving me at 215. so now i treadmill at LA Fitness 3 mornings a week, and don't eat until i'm really really hungry, and i'm down to 202. still have 17 to go. something about the LA Fitness water kills those viruses!

Something about pollution kills the viruses. Big city people are typically skinnier, even though rural people generally tend to get more exercise during the day.

Diseases such as with the thyroid gland can bring metabolism to a screeching halt. http://www.thyroid-info.com/articles/smoking.htm "Tobacco smoke contains substances that affect the function of the thyroid. One component of tobacco smoke is cyanide, which is converted to thiocyanate, which acts as an anti-thyroid agent, directly inhibiting iodide uptake and hormone synthesis."
