Aww, Pino, sorry about the cat. Mine is 18 also and still spry enough to jump up on the kitchen table at the most inopportune moments. Her name is Shadow.

Sad when you lose a pet. I cried at the vet when we had to have one of our cats put down a couple of years ago. He was quite young and had been the runt of the litter but had a massive personality. He developed kidney failure and when he fell down stairs we had to make the decision to end the suffering. His brother was lost without him. Only four years and the attachment is strong. When you have a pet for a long time I am sure the attachment must be even stronger.
I offer condolences and sympathy.

Yeah. Rosie, too, was still jumping up on to things until a few weeks ago. She deteriorated very rapidly and really died quite suddenly. I hope I'll be that lucky.

I'm sort of glad that the decision to take her to the vet to be put down was taken out of my hands. I would have found that very tough to deal with.
She got very lethargic in the last couple of days. Yesterday morning my wife opened the back door. Rosie was just lying in the conservatory, not interested in much. She ate one bit of chicken, but wasn't interested in another.
My wife left the conservatory. When she glanced over a few minutes later, Rosie was gone.
We reckon she must have gotten up, walked out into the garden, settled herself down under that bush and died. Just like that. By the time I found her, 30 hours or so later, she wasn't even stiff anymore, so she must have been dead a while.

My condolences. It is painful to lose a pet. She had a good life and died quickly, I don't think anyone can ask for better.

My condolences.
I have a 14 year old cat. She is pretty active, but has allergies that hit her about this time of year which always worries me. Runny nose, reddish eyes and all that. The medicines I can get make her really lethargic and give her stomach problems, so I am not sure which is worse. She is a lot like me in that. I hope she lives a lot longer. I have a conference to go to in August and my teenage kids will be in charge of taking care of her for 5 days, this worries me more than anything. I dunno if I cound handle if she passed away while I was gone. She acts like I have been gone forever when I go to work, I dunno how she will handle me being away that long.

strange how we can get so attached to pets. Had a cat when I was younger. Her name was Rosie. She adopted us when we moved. And no, that tear is from cigarette smoke, not because I'm thinking about our cat.

:( i'm sorry, Pino. it's curious how that hurts, isn't it. you don't think of animals as being special until you lose a beloved pet. that's really why i've been a vegetarian for 29 years - because there really is someone in there; they just can't do math as well as we can.
we lost both our cats - within a month of each other, really - they'd been with Marie for 10 and 13 years. we suspect pesticides that the landlord sprayed caused both of their deadly tumors. they died almost exactly 2 years after we escaped that lease - both the same month, both from similar cancerous tumors.

Chester was a lap-ornament. he would watch as you started toward the chair, and leap as your butt was almost in it - so he was landing in your "lap" the instant your "lap" came into being. his timing was amazing. Sam was the best hunter in the Rockies... and a "tough bastard" (i believe that's what Baldrick called him, when he escaped the coyote's mouth and the blood on his back turned out to be the coyote's)

Im very sorry for your loss, Pino. Suffering the death of a pet is one of the most difficult responsibilities a pet owner must bear. I hope you can find comfort in the fact she went peacefully, in familiar surroundings, and that you gave her a good home in which to live a long, healthy life. Im sure you brought as much joy to her life as she brought to you and your family.

I think Shadow is checking out. She ran around the kitchen like crazy Friday night and scooted down to the cellar. We looked for her, but didn't see her till last night, when she came up to drink some water, then went right back downstairs again.

Has Shadow gotten any shots lately? As cats get older the rabies and other shots can make them kinda sick for a while after, but they get over it in a few days.

I just got back from California last night, after 5 days, and Rascal hasn't gotten more than 5 feet away me since. I had to go pick up my van this morning (I left it for some maintenance service while I was gone), she meowed and cried til I came back. It is cute but it makes me sad a bit too. Poor kitty ='o(

Shadow came back upstairs last night. She ate well- some dry food and a can, but she's just laying by the bowl. She responded to me this morning, but I'm afraid of what I might find went I get home.

a pet, in my experience, is indeed a "temporary thing". as are we all.
live today like nobody's watching (um, or is that how we're supposed to dance???) dance like nobody's listening (... or is that how we're supposed to sing???) sing like there's no tomorrow!~ oh, never mind.

Amazingly, still alive and feisty, but the legs aren't working so well. She was at her food dish when I came home tonight, and she meowed, but I saw she had dry food so I checked and saw she needed water, so I gave her some.
Some nights she's upstairs, some nights she's in the basement.
Eighteen years.

She was still by the food dish this morning, sleeping (isn't that all cats do besides eat?) so I called to her and she looked up at me with those big eyes. So cute.

yea cute, but since he can't figure out exactly how to USE my cellphone, he just bats it (and everything else) onto the floor. little shit's a tazmanian devil - running and climbing and jumping and biting... he needs to loose a couple of little appendages growing out his backend. maybe then he'll slow down!
sanstete, i just post images (i stashed in one of my customer's websites) using IMG tags. <img src="http: (slash slash) www (dot) mycustomerswebsite.com/images/mypic.jpg">

Belated condolences, Pino. I know how much it hurts. I still miss a certain feline member of the family some two decades after he died. The little bugger loved to wrestle when he was on catnip. <sigh>
