i don't want to use blogger.com or digg.com i want to roll my own (er, using ready-to-use widgets) any suggestions? i host on an Apache and have no idea how to put up a MySQL database (which i assume i'm going to have to learn in a hurry) so, thanks for any advice. i appreciate it.

ok, downloaded and installed MySQL on my WinXP machine from http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/4.1.html i guess i'll RTFM...
wow, no wonder they don't print this thing out! that's a lot of manual!

Actually, for blogging you could maybe check out: http://wordpress.org/
There are lots of tools for updating your blog through it too: http://uneasysilence.com/archive/2008/01/12897/
Drupal is good, but for certain applications and it's probably overkill if you just want a blogger.

i was under the impression that you have to host the blog at their site if you use their stuff. maybe i'm wrong. i'll look them over, thanks.
