i wondered how there can be a function in whitepages.com (for instance) that lets you search for people's email addresses.
then i added a colleague into my hotmail address book, and may have figured it out.
i'm going to have to research it, but does anyone already know this answer?

Don't know, are you suggesting that the address books are visible and therefore being mined?

being a conspiracy theorist, and all-around skeptic, i'm suggesting the same thing i suggested here, that after you hand over your information for safe-keeping, it's finding its way out the back door and into the hands of scoundrels who use it (or sell it).
how else would a "whitepages.com" come up with an email list?  do YOU surrender your email address to registries with your real name attached?

might be being stolen by an employee.

I figure if it's online, one way or another, its accessable/visible to anyone who wants it badly enough...
