Drink alcohol—especially red wine. We now know that people who drink in moderation—one drink a day for women, one or two for men—have lower rates of heart disease than people who don't drink, probably because alcohol increases the amount of good cholesterol and makes blood less likely to clot. This holds true for all types of alcohol, but red wine has other health benefits. Red wine may explain the so-called "French paradox"—the French eat a diet soaked in saturated fat but have rates of heart disease no higher than anyone else. Red wine contains antioxidants like procyanidin, which keeps blood vessels from constricting. But perhaps more important, it contains resveratrol. People who live in red wine producing regions have higher than average longevity. Resveratrol supplements may or may not work, but it seems clear that red wine has a longevity benefit. So if you can tolerate the alcohol, a glass of red wine a day is probably a good idea. (... then the requisite legal crap about not over-drinking)

Lot's of yanks started to drink red wine after the report on the french paradox was first published, only to find out that it doesn't work that way. That is to say, eating healthy stuff + drinking red wine is not a good idea, but eating as the french do (God knows they have their cooking right (main reason I live in that country)) + drinking red wine seems to have some good effects on your health.

This "mediterranian diet" is pure nonsense. I think that reportings of the average French lifespan have been skewed by their tendency to surrender, just like the Italians.

American lifespan has been skewed by their tendency to do some intelligent warfare (like Vietnam, Irak, Afganistan) just to keep their status of the world's police officer.
France had some pranks from the other side of the ocean because they didn't believe the "evidence" on arms of mass destruction in Irak. It shows now that they were right. How many americans have been killed in Irak over the last two years? That surely skewes their lifespan.
Anyway as far as red liquid is concerned, I prefer wine over blood. ;-))

Careful old chap, only communists and terrorist sympathisers take sides against Dubya.

Uh... no!!
only communists and terrorist sympathisers and myself take sides against Dubya. I don't like communism, (it's not natural) and the only terror I like can be found in a good Hitchcock movie.
As far as Dubya is concerned, the "patriot, labour and family" concept has been used in France by Petain and took France alongside nazi Germany. That surely gave France the rotten reputation they deserved after the second WW.

Yea, but W is following up in daddy's "new world order" footsteps. At lease dad had the sense to leave Irak in place to balance Iran. I think W will go down in history as the president that suplanted Buchannan as USA's worst.
