when i was a 'for-hire' programmer, i got used to dealing with people who needed help remembering to breathe.
now that i'm an all-around programmer/office workhorse in the medical industry, i was anticipating the pleasure of working with competent, educated, even bright people.  i'm dreadfully disappointed.  and not a little bit afraid, now, of stepping foot in a hospital or a doctor's office.  the level of laziness and just plain stupidity is astonishing.... appalling.
does anyone know a place i can go to work with bright people?  i need a fix!!!
(i tried rebooting)

Well, its obvious the problem is your fault since you haven't tried (or even mentioned) rebooting.

I worked support with a company involved in systems used by medical offices. Got a call from a nurse about having problems logging in to the system. Asked her if she had logged in, she said no. Asked her what was on the screen and she described the screen saver. Told her to move the mouse to bring up the login screen...her response..."What's a mouse?"...This was about 3 or 4 years ago, and she had never used a computer with a mouse before.

You should work over here in the UK with me. We're all about as clever as going to the toilet without taking your trousers down first. I'm as thick as pigshit, me! I wonder what clicking this button labelled "subm

it's the old bell curve, 68% of people fall in the 'middle', then 14% are 'bright' and 2% super intelligent.  14% are thick and 2% thick as the proverbial.

in my experience, most people like top think they are in a higher catergory, so about 20% of people I know think they are in the brightest 1% etc.

Anyway, I think a small IT company with a track record of success in a niche market sounds like a good idea.  Best if directed by people from an IT background.  Yo might still get, bulls*****r, lazy gits and morons - but not as many because the company would be bust.

tell him to wave the magic wand that came with the server..... he DID buy the magic wand option, didn't he???

luckily the server was 'dying' not dead & he got the stuff copied before it flunked.

... and what part of "networks and Backup Department" did he not understand?  apparently the "backup" part, hu?

has he learned a lesson?

yes - be sure to buy the "magic wand" option next time, so he doesn't have to worry about making backups!
