i'd like to announce that i'm the proud parent of a second-hand bouncing baby antec box running W2KS as a domain server.
thank you.... thank you.  cigar?

i told them i was not the guy to establish the network in the here-to-fore P2P office because it would take me a week to study everything that i would need to.  so we had a pair of wire-rims come in and do it.  it took him an hour and he was flying from workstation to workstation.  did a good job.  but now that we're home from the hospital and it's just IT and me, can anybody tell me a really no-nonsence book that i simply must read?  i mean, i have to change IT's diapers and feed IT...
so ... what do i feed IT?

try rebooking

It doesn't do any good to recommend A book. No matter which one it is, you new baby will develop IT's own habits which are not in that book.

So read everything you can get your hands on, and cross your fingers.

IT Rule 1: if the baby runs OK, DON'T TOUCH IT. (sorry for shouting)
IT Rule 2: when in doubt refer to Rule 1.

This is just to say that in case you've got problems with your baby, call in the same pair of wire-rims.

it's not "problems" i'm talking about, it's adding users, policies, groups, accounts, widgits, and those hard-to-configure do-hickies that i'm talking about.  the company is in transition and i'm likely going to be asked to make changes to passwords or permissions, and, like it or not, i'm going to r.t.f'ing.m.  i'd just like a little guidance on which f'ing m to read.

I like the Administrator's Pocket Consultant series and for Dummies series.

Here are the 2 from those series that apply;

stone,
the "Dummies" books i've seen insult my limited intelligence with their cutzie humor and ignorant comments.  i just want the fax.
the 'Administrator's Pocket Consultant" looks good - Amazon had one for 14 cents, so for $3.48, it's mine.
thanks for the recommendation.

Some of the Dummies series do suck, and some have a fair amount of stupid cutesy crap, but others are pretty decent. I guess it depends on what the topic is, I have had good luck with them so far, but I usually only buy their books for the more advanced stuff. The Admin Pocket Consultant series has never steered me wrong.

stone,
>>"Cash and lots of it."<<
i'm not going to have that problem - IT's not a female :)

If you get *really* stuck, there's this "sex change expert" (or something) web site where you can outsource your IT to any transvestite around the world. Sorry, can't remember the URL, try googling.

The UK's best-known sex change expert continued to treat a paedophile who he knew had lied about his sexual offending...

no, that's not it...

Britain's best known sex change expert, consultant psychiatrist Russell Reid, ignored guidelines and rushed patients into surgery without properly assessing ...

no...

I'm not a sex-change expert, but aren't the changes mostly external for appearances? Even if one of them did get breasts and female genatilia, you also need ...

no, but hmmmm....

hey, didn't i get Exchange Server with this Windows 2000 Server?
i don't see it installed and it's not in the box.
i thought it was bundled with Server 2000

From: Send Carobit Mail stone5150 On: 2007/05/22 08:23:29
Nope, it is a seperate app. Not that hard to install unless you try to mix versions.

hmmm, anybody know where 5 seats of Exchange Server 2000 might be found?
i looked at EggHead but that's going to Amazon now.
