The chief of Russia’s general staff, Yuri Baluyevsky, said last November that Russia was beefing up its military in response to US aggression, but that the Russian military is not “obliged to defend the world from the evil Americans.” With Russia’s stated intention to distance itself from the situation, all eyes are on America. The date of this quote was mistaken to be recent, when in-fact was originally reported by Ria Novosti March 27, 2007, and was not in regards to the current imminent threat. (1) The threat of war against Iran persists nonetheless. Military planning as well as the buildup directed against Iran has taken place over a period of more than four years. In actual fact, the Stennis had returned to Naval Base Kitsap in Bremerton on March 28, 2008, upon completion of sea trials following a massive re-fit.
