I took a network card out of an old pc. It's a 10/100 card. It works fine.
I have it turned to full duplex.

the thing is.. my entire network seems to have slowed down some... could the old card have done this? Or should I look elsewhere? I did try unplugging the pc from my network and it didn't seem to change things, tho perhaps I needed to reset other hardware - I didn't try that. but before I start doing all that - is it possible for an older card to slow down an entire network?

and no, it's not adware, spyware, etc.

As a "knee-jerk" reflex I'd say "no", one node shouldn't slow down an entire network, but I realize I have no hard support for that standpoint. For TokenRing it's like the slowest node sets the pace, I think, but I assume this is ethernet.

Can you disconnect the PC with the old card, power down everything else (swiotches etc included) and restart and then check if you get the old speed back and if connecting the "old card" again causes a slowdown?

Also, "full duplex" isn't about the speed... What is the speed setting? Auto or fixed at 10 or 100?

Is your network built around a switch or a hub? Is the switch capable of handling different speeds on different ports?

switch is good - just added it. it's smart, handling each port separately.

I though full duplex meant a full 100 going both ways..
and I set it to 100.

the complete system reset is what I'm trying to avoid until i have more info.

Full duplex is the ability to send and receive simultaneously, not necessarily at top speed, but if you've set it to 100, that's the speed it will use, probably. No bright ideas as of now...

I reset the entire system - tested ok
re-added the pc to the network - tested ok

I did the reset last night. when I tested then, speed sucked

I'm starting to think it's day vs night thing... in other words, my isp.

cause my testing of ok is during the day. my issues, i think, have been at night - i'll have to verify.
